Hyperhidrosis

By Dr. Nektarios Logaras – Dermatologist / Venereologist.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is the focal excessive secretion of sweat. It is also called focal hyperhidrosis and it may occur most often on the palms, soles and armpits. It tends to start early in life, before the age of 25. In Hyperhidrosis, the excessive secretion of sweat is due to the Overactivation of the Autonomic Nervous System.

Hyperhidrosis has occupational, social and psychological consequences.

Before treatment, a clinical examination will be performed and a laboratory test may be needed to rule out other things that may cause excessive sweating.

The local injection of Botulinum Toxin (Botox) is the most common topical treatment for Hyperhidrosis.

The duration of the effect depends on the treated area and may last from 5-12 months.
