Laser Hair Removal For Women

By Dr. Nektarios Logaras – Dermatologist / Venereologist

The permanent and definite hair removal, was an unfulfilled wish for the previous decades. Women and men were constantly suffering from the classic methods (shaving, waxing, etc.). Now, modern technology offers us a variety of ways to get rid of unwanted hair growth, the most effective of which is Laser Hair Removal.
At Athens South Clinic, we have the most advanced medical equipment, aiming at effective and permanent hair removal on all parts of the body, at any time of the year. GentleMax Pro platform by Syneron Candela combines two state-of-the-art Laser technologies in the same equipment: Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd: YAG (1064 nm).

What are the benefits of hair removal with the GentleMax Pro platform?

  • Painless procedure
  • Safe application
  • Visible results from the 1st session
  • Short session
  • Dual targeting technology
  • Permanent and definite results

How does Laser hair removal work for the permanent treatment of hair growth?

ΤThe Laser emits a beam of light that destroys the hair follicle, without causing injury to the skin tissue. This is due to the special cooling operation of Laser that freezes skin twice, a few seconds before the thermal laser beam and immediately after. In this way, the sense of pain is significantly reduced and this allows the dermatologist, to increase emission of beam energy, increasing the effectiveness of the treatment, since the higher the energy of the Laser the less treatments are needed.

At Athens South Clinic, we are specialized in the field of Laser applications, as well as in the field of biology – life cycle of hair, skin, and body.

What is the time period, during the hair growth phase, that the laser application must be applied, in order to achieve the maximum results in each treatment?

Life cycle of hair includes 3 stages

1st Stage – Anagen: During this stage, the hair grows rapidly. This is the initial phase of hair growth, when hair begins to show on the skin.
At this stage, we apply Laser Hair Removal, in order to create greater damage to the cells that feed hair and in this way to destroy it faster.

2nd Stage – Catagen:: his stage is not ideal for permanent hair removal, because during this stage the rate of hair growth decreases.

3rd Stage – Telogen: This is the final stage of hair growth and it is the stage when laser treatment should not be applied. This is because hair does not grow.

It may take 6-12 weeks before hair grows out of the follicles and reappear on the skin. This 1st stage of hair growing is the ideal period in order that, laser hair removal treatments are effective.

The Dermatologist, Dr. Nektarios Logaras first examines the area of skin on which Laser will be applied, in order to identify skin damages, which would need treatment before hair removal. Before each Laser treatment, the area where the hair removal will take place should be free of creams and other cosmetics. Then, a razor is used, so that the laser thermal beam targets at the hair follicle and not the entire stem. In sensitive areas, such as the armpits and bikini line, a local anesthetic cream is used to minimize the pain.

With the Gentle Laser Max – Alexandrite & Nd:YAG platform, the results are visible from the very first session, as hair is gradually reduced.

For the complete relief of unwanted hair growth, 5-7 sessions are required. The number of sessions varies, depending on the area which will be treated, as well as the characteristics of the hair, the skin and the body.

Radical Hair Removal also on White Hair:

Due to absence of melanin in white hair, Laser hair removal becomes impossible, as it cannot target them. In this case, the hair removal is performed using a high technology radical hair removal system with Radio waves (Pelleve).
