Cysts And Lipomas

The skin consists of three layers:
-Epidermis
-Dermis
-Subcutaneous adipose tissue
The cysts grow on the dermis, the middle layer of the skin. Cysts and lipomas are often confused.
They are small or large lumps that are located inside the skin and should be properly diagnosed because their treatment may differ.
Depending on the lump (whether is cyst or lipoma) can be surgically removed or treated with antibiotics or drainage.
Even if we are sure that it is a cyst, its treatment may differ, from whether it is sebaceous, with hard or soft contents, from its location, whether it is inflamed with relapses, and if it creates problems in the daily activities or aesthetics of the person.
So the diagnosis by a specialist dermatologist can prevent unnecessary surgery, and when surgery is the best solution to be guided by less invasive intervention, using local rather than general anesthesia, in the doctor’s office, with minimal recovery time and without hospitalization with interruption of daily activities.
Cysts
Cysts can appear on the skin and gradually grow in size, and do not recur if not treated properly.
In some cases, depending to their location, e.g. spine, ultrasound is useful to see their extent.
In some cases, due to heredity and increased sebum secretion, a person may develop more than one cyst.
The main reason for their appearance is the obstruction of the hair follicles of the skin resulting in the entrapment of the contents, which under normal conditions flows to the surface of the skin, to be trapped inside.
If there is inflammation we should give antibiotics and when the inflammation is gone it should be removed together with its sac so that it does not recur.

Lipomas

The reason for their appearance may be hereditary or due to a syndrome. While they are rarely inflamed in some cases they must be removed because they may press on an internal organ or be an aesthetic burden.
