WARTS

By Dr. Nektarios Logaras – Dermatologist/Venereologist

Warts are benign hyperplasias of skin cells that are caused due to HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) infection.

The Warts are distinguished in:

-Common Warts
-Flat Warts
– Plantar Warts

Warts are contagious and can be transmitted from person to person, but It’s also possible to spread from one part of someone’s body to another.

Warts are very common in children.

The most effective way to avoid warts are the protective measures of personal hygiene in public places e.g. flip flops in gyms, swimming pools, etc.

In Athens South Dermatology Clinic, we have all the modern means for their effective and fast treatment, such as CO2 Laser electrocautery as well as liquid nitrogen.

The period of their complete healing depends on:

-The immune system (Immunosuppressed patients have the slowest healing)
-Their location (Plantar warts need more treatment)
-Their type

THE FINAL TREATMENT OF WARTS WITH LASER

In Athens South Dermatology Clinic, the warts are examined and diagnosed with a digital or plain dermatoscope always by the specialized Dermatologist Dr. Nektarios Logaras. Once the diagnosis has been made depending on the location and age, we proceed to the evaporation of warts – CO2 Laser treatment.

The evaporation of warts with CO2 Laser is the most effective treatment since only one treatment is required for the final – complete treatment of Warts.
Evaporation is the process by which a solid (wart) passes from the solid phase directly to the gas by bypassing the liquid (wound). This means that we have fast healing.
For evaporationm, of course, a smoke extractor is necessary so that we do not breathe and transmit the warts virus to the lungs.
With the CO2 Laser, the Doctor has the complete control over the depth and width of each lesion that must be evaporated so as not to leave behind infected skin from the wart virus. When this happens with other treatments the wart relapses and spreads since they are extremely contagious not only from person to person but can also spread – multiply in the same person.

Another great advantage compared to traditional treatments (Nitrogen, Diathermy) is the fact that it leaves no scars. It is a painless, simple, bloodless, easy treatment always with the use of local anesthesia, with immediate return to daily activities.

In Athens South Dermatology Clinic, in children is applied anesthetic cream and then treated with liquid nitrogen, thus avoiding local anesthesia by injection.

In adults, we choose the appropriate treatment with Laser or Liquid Nitrogen and we can add a topical treatment for the parallel treatment at home that is prescribed in the doctor’s office.
